For most of the world, Christmas begins as soon as the Thanksgiving leftovers are packed into the fridge. By December 1st, decorations, carols, and holiday sales abound. Yet as Christians, we are called to observe Advent before we celebrate Christmas. Though different from the explicitly penitential season of Lent, Advent does have a penitential tone. As we wait in darkness for the Light of the World to come, we’re called to penance, prayer, and reflection. So how can we observe Advent as Christians and not get swept away by the secular “holiday season”? Watch this video for some ideas!
