On a four-day, high-altitude adventure through the Cirque of the Towers in the Wind River Range of Wyoming, Fr. Nathan Sparks copes with rugged terrain, swarming mosquitos, thin air, and the dangers of grizzly bears. Amid the majesty of jagged granite towers, breathtaking views, and fishing in quiet mountain streams, he reflects on the mystery of mountains, the adventure of faith, and the call to discover our bliss in the journey of holiness.
Reflection Questions:
As I think about "the hero's journey," the call from the ordinary into the unknown, what stages of the journey might I recognize in my own life? What are the "jagged horizons" that have invited me to the adventure of truly living and of going deeper with God? What might be the people, the places, or events that have interrupted my day-to-day? What might be the tragedies, the trials, the beauties, and the loves that have ignited my sense of wonder?
Do I experience the call to holiness and to beatitude also as a call to the joy and adventure of the Kingdom of God, an adventure which will unlock the deepest and most fulfilling parts of my heart? How do I relate to the unknowns in my life and in my heart? With fear and anxiety, or with faith and trust in God's desire to guide me to my bliss?
