Saint John's Church, Worcester, MA is seeking a Director of Music.
This full-time position will open in November, 2022. The Director plans and oversees the music at all Masses and rehearsals, and directs the Cantor Program, the Parish Choir, the professional Schola Cantorum, and coordinates the Lithuanian Choir that meets a few times a year. The Director maintains the instruments and the music library, provides musical materials for the weekly bulletin, and manages the Church's copyright subscription. The Director is assisted by the Associate Director who plays two of the weekend Masses, including as accompanist for the Parish Choir Mass. The Director plays and directs music for five weekend Masses during the program year, including the rehearsal at 11:30 and the 12:15 p.m. Sunday Choir Mass (accompanied by Assoc. DM -- Sept-June) and the 6:15 p.m. rehearsal and 7:15 p.m. Sunday Schola Masses. The Director also plans, plays, and directs music and oversees music staffing for all holy days, funerals, weddings, weekly Parish Choir rehearsals, and for the annual Novena. S/he rehearses and directs the Schola Cantorum, an 8-voice ensemble of professional singers, and the Parish Choir made up of members of the Parish. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the Liturgies of the Church, competent in a variety of Catholic liturgical music styles including Gregorian Chant and sacred Polyphony, and have excellent choral conducting, vocal, organ, and piano skills.
