St. John's Seminary receives Lynch Foundation grant

BRIGHTON -- St. John's Seminary announced earlier this month that it has received a $150,000 capacity grant from the Lynch Foundation for development purposes, which are a major focus of rector Msgr. James P. Moroney's administration.

The seminary received its first grant of $200,000 from the Lynch Foundation in November 2012 for the initial renovations made to the new campus Lecture Hall and Library at the former Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Oak Square. As the first investors in this project, this gift of Carolyn and Peter Lynch was the main catalyst driving the project, which was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept 16. As a result of the progress made with this initial gift, the Lynch Foundation has decided to fund this capacity grant for St. John's Seminary.

Implementation of development strategy has been one of the priorities of Msgr. Moroney's administration, and with this new funding, the seminary will be able to invest in resources that will help sustain and grow the infrastructure to create a sustainable, comprehensive fundraising program. To date, under Msgr. Moroney direction, the seminary has received a total of over $600,000 in grants.

"Thanks to the generosity of the Lynches, we will be able to build and grow our fledgling Development program like never before. It is a great blessing made possible by these good Catholic folks," Msgr. Moroney said.
