Following a consultation in which the priests in each vicariate of the archdiocese were asked to nominate priests in the vicariate and after consulting with the regional bishops, Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley named the new vicars on July 1, 2011.

Each will serve a three-year term and will be responsible for promoting communication among the cardinal, the regional bishop or regional vicar and the priests of the vicariate. He will also be responsible for visiting the parishes and reporting to the regional bishop on parish life, programs, plans and organizations and also for a regular inspection of the sacramental records to ensure that these documents are being properly maintained, recorded and cared for in each parish.

Each of the vicars is the pastor, rector or moderator of the team ministry of the respective parish or parishes and remains such while serving in the additional role as vicar forane or dean.
