BOSTON -- The Archdiocese of Boston will sponsor a special collection at weekend Masses Dec. 8-9 in support of religious sisters who have served in the archdiocese and are now retired. Over the years, the Archdiocese of Boston has been blessed with many schools, hospitals and social service agencies. Religious communities of sisters gave of themselves untiringly to serve the corporal and spiritual needs of the faithful. The sisters worked for little or no compensation. Gifts and stipends were used to further the mission and care of those most in need. Fast forward to 2007, these sisters are now retired. Their religious communities face staggering costs for health care. Through this special collection, the archdiocese will remember these sisters.
