WATERTOWN -- To begin a new era in the history of Boston’s CatholicTV (BCTV), its two most popular programs, “Daily Mass” and “The Rosary” were broadcast live from the new Msgr. Francis T. McFarland Center on Sept. 4. ‘The first live telecast from Watertown coincides with an all-new season of programming on the 24-hour religious cable station.

Director of CatholicTV, Father Robert Reed, presided over the first Watertown “Daily Mass,” celebrated by priests from around the archdiocese live each weekday at 9:30 a.m. with rebroadcasts at 7:30 p.m. and midnight. The congregation consisted of staff, friends and family for the first Mass.

Father Reed welcomed those praying together with these words, “It is a tremendous moment for all of us here at CatholicTV; for those present and all of you faithful friends and viewers. The first time we broadcast live from our brand new studios here in Watertown, it is most appropriate the first thing we do is celebrate Mass in our beautiful new chapel.”

The half-hour Mass aired without a glitch, the crew took a three-minute “commercial” break before the chapel became the site for the first live edition of CatholicTV’s “The Rosary” from Watertown. This series is a staple among regular viewers of CatholicTV. It is airs at 3 a.m., 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily and features the rosary being prayed as close as the Charles River and as far away as Vatican City and France. Father Reed and Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley both have recorded editions for the program.

Meanwhile, the first season to air from Watertown on CatholicTV is underway. Season three of original CatholicTV series “Going My Way” and “WOW” debut. Join host Father Chris Hickey, his mentor, turned sidekick Father Paul Rouse on piano and a different guest priest singing every week on “Going My Way.” Meanwhile students from around the archdiocese compete on “WOW,” CatholicTV’s game show for kids of all ages. The return of Father Chris Coyne to CatholicTV with the series “Sacred Time” is also a highlight of the new lineup.
