WESTON -- Due to the generosity of the participants and sponsors, the 15th Annual Blessed John XXIII National Seminary Golf Tournament held May 21 at the Weston Golf Club was the most successful tournament to date. A full roster of golfers participated in the day’s events, which included lunch at the club, 18 holes of golf, a social hour, silent auction and dinner with tournament and door prizes.

The event is held each year to benefit the educational program for over 60 seminarians currently enrolled at the seminary, a Weston institution since 1964. This unique national seminary prepares men who have already contributed to their community through a secular career and, upon graduating, will embark on a new vocation as ordained priests. Tuition covers only half the cost of educating a seminarian and the proceeds from this tournament help bridge the gap and keep the cost of their education affordable.

“It is very rewarding to be a part of a community that provides such valuable service to the Church,” said James J. Mahoney, Jr., a member of the seminary’s board of trustees.

“All that is done at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary -- the high quality of the formation program -- is being accomplished with a relatively small expenditure of resources. My effort gives meaning to the expression, ‘With God all things are made possible,’” he added.

The seminary community expressed its gratitude to the members and staff of Weston Golf Club for allowing this event to be held at this private course for several years. The tournament was supported by over 80 local businesses and sponsors both locally and nationally. Framingham Ford was the tournament “Hole-in-One” sponsor and was offering a 2007 Ford Focus as a grand prize.
