2007 Catholic high school commencement roundup
As the school year comes to an end, The Pilot extends congratulations to all graduates of the following Catholic high schools:
Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsboro
Graduation took place on Sunday afternoon, May 20. Diplomas were presented to 36 seniors. Addressing their classmates was salutatorian Meredith Norton and valedictorian Salwa Masud.
Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree
The 55th commencement took place on Sunday morning, June 3. Laura Bloomer delivered the salutatory address and Julie Murphy delivered the valedictory address. Addressing the graduates was Richard Baughan ‘85. Diplomas were presented to 133 graduates.
Arlington Catholic High School, Arlington
The 44th commencement took place off campus for the first time in the school’s history on Friday, May 25. The ceremony was held under a tent on the grounds of Bentley College in Waltham. Kathleen Ma presented the salutatory address and Bridget O’Laughlin presented the valedictory address. An invited speaker for the occasion was Mark Sullivan ‘72, head of the U.S. Secret Service. Diplomas were presented to 214 graduates.
Austin Prep, Reading
The 42nd commencement took place on Saturday, June 2. The salutatory address was given by Rima Shah and the valedictory address by Diane E. Kaliris. An invited speaker was Brother Paul O’Keefe, OFM., ‘88. Diplomas were presented to 104 graduates.
Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody
The 45th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 25 at the school. Diplomas were presented to 186 graduates. Marguerite Poeske delivered the salutatorian address and Vy Nguyen delivered the valedictorian address
Boston College High School, Boston
The 143rd commencement took place on Sunday afternoon, May 20 at McNeice Pavilion. The exercises began with graduates of the class of 1957 leading the procession. Addressing the graduates was Walter V. Robinson, ‘64, distinguished professor of journalism at Northeastern University. Graduates Seán Judge and Brian Merrigan addressed the class as well. Diplomas were presented to 271 graduates. This year’s class will long be remembered for winning state championships in basketball and hockey.
Cardinal Spellman High School, Brockton
On the grounds of Potvin Field, amid sunshine, the 46th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 24. Diplomas were presented to 158 graduates. Danielle Lefevre delivered the salutatory address and Nicole Collins delivered the valedictory address. Deacon Joseph Nickley delivered the commencement address.
Cathedral High School, South End
The 81st commencement took place on Saturday morning, June 2 at Holy Cross Cathedral. Principal Christol Murch presented diplomas to 51 graduates. Graduate Kandley Val delivered the student’s address.
Catholic Memorial High School, West Roxbury
Holy Name Church in West Roxbury was again the site of CM’s 47th commencement on Thursday afternoon, May 24. Brother James J. MacDonald presented diplomas to 120 graduates. Paul A. Corcoran delivered the salutatory address and Craig A. Carpenter delivered the valedictory address. This year’s class had 13 seniors who are sons of previous CM graduates.
Central Catholic High School, Lawrence
The 69th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 25 in the school gymnasium. A number of graduates from the class of 1957 attended. Diplomas were presented to 286 graduates. Lauren Xenakis delivered the salutatory address and Mary K. Conboy delivered the valedictory address.
Elizabeth Seton Academy, Dorchester
The third commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 24 at St. Gregory Church. Dr. Maureen T. White, principal, presented diplomas to seven graduates. An invited speaker for the occasion was City Councilor Maureen Feeney. Talisha Heap delivered the valedictory address.
Fontbonne Academy, Brighton
The 50th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 24 under a tent erected on the grounds of the school. Dr. Anne Malone, principal, presented diplomas to 134 graduates. Stephanie Spera and Maura Sullivan were chosen to address their classmates. The invited speaker was Lois Roach ‘79. She was awarded with the Mother of St. John Award.
Hudson Catholic High School, Hudson
Graduation took place on Friday evening, May 25 at St. Michael Church. The salutatory address was presented by Anna Evans and the valedictory address by Whitney Taylor. Both were awarded a Cardinal Medeiros Scholarship. Diplomas were presented to 38 graduates.
Lowell Catholic High School, Lowell
The 18th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 25 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Faith Goronga delivered the salutatory address and Katelyn Buote the valedictory address. Diplomas were presented to 70 graduates.
Malden Catholic High School, Malden
The 71st commencement took place on Saturday afternoon, May 24 in the school gymnasium. A large number of graduates from the Class of 1957 led the procession. Delivering the salutatory address was Louis Do and the valedictory address was given by Joseph S. McDonald. Principal Thomas Arria presented diplomas to 158 graduates.
Marian High School, Framingham
The 48th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 25. Diplomas were presented to 60 graduates. Delivering the salutatory address was Erik Nazarento and the valedictory address was given by Matthew Connor. Dr. Ann Kessler ‘61 delivered the commencement address.
Matignon High School, Cambridge
The 59th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 25 in the school assembly hall. Class president Ryan Murphy and valedictorian Michael Cioffi addressed the gathering. An invited speaker for the occasion was Father George Morgan, OSA, a member of the class of 1957. Principal Thomas Galligani presented diplomas to 69 graduates. A handful of graduates from the class of 1957 was presented with golden jubilee diplomas.
Mount Alvernia High School, Newton
Rain moved the 68th commencement indoors on Saturday afternoon, May 19. The salutatory address was delivered by Caroline Spaeth and the valedictory address by Mary Rezk. Mrs. Kathleen Kent, principal, presented diplomas to 41 graduates.
Mount St. Joseph Academy, Brighton
Amid evening sunshine the class of 2007, clad in white, filed into the school assembly hall for the 122nd commencement. Je Seán Oh presented the salutatory address and Kristen McNelis delivered the valedictory address. Mrs. Kathleen Fraser, principal, presented diplomas to 66 graduates.
Newton Country Day School, Newton
The 127th commencement took place on Thursday morning, June 7 on the grounds of the school under a tent erected for the occasion. Kimberly Bodenlos delivered the salutatory address and Erin Pepin the valedictory address. Guest speaker for the occasion was Cara Drinan, ‘92. Sister Barbara Rogers, headmistress, presented diplomas to 48 graduates.
North Cambridge Catholic High School, Cambridge
The 86th commencement took place on Friday afternoon, June 1 at St. John the Evangelist Church. Kimberly Francois delivered the salutatory address and Debbie Mondestin the valedictory address. Robert McCarthy, principal, awarded diplomas to 35 graduates.
Notre Dame Academy, Hingham
The 140th commencement took place on Sunday afternoon, June 3. The salutatory address was given by Hillary O’Reardon and the valedictory address by Mary Kate Jasper. An invited speaker for the occasion was Robin Pelissier ‘77. Diplomas were presented to 130 graduates.
Our Lady of Nazareth Academy, Wakefield
Graduation took place on Thursday, May 24. Dr. Maria Mellendec addressed the graduates. Diplomas were presented to 39 graduates.
Pope John XXIII High School, Everett
The 38th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 24 in the school assembly hall. Peter Douglass delivered the salutatory address and Rayane Carvalho the valedictory address. An invited speaker for the occasion was David Boeri, journalist at radio station WBUR. Dr. William J. Fitzgerald, headmaster, presented diplomas to 96 graduates.
Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen
Graduation took place on Friday, May 25. The salutatory address was given by Molly Moulton and the valedictory address by Raagini Jawa. Diplomas were presented to 70 graduates.
Sacred Heart High School, Kingston
The 50th commencement took place on Saturday, May 26. Jessica Judge delivered the salutatory address and Tyler Hebert, the valedictory address. Graduates of the class of 1957 attended and were presented golden jubilee diplomas. Diplomas were presented to 99 graduates.
Savio Prep, East Boston
The 46th and final commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 24 at the school. Ganese Cerulli delivered the salutatory address and Michael Moccia gave the valedictory address. Diplomas were presented to 70 graduates.
St. Clement High School, Somerville
Graduation took place on Friday evening, May 25 at St. Clement Church. Sarah Rossi delivered the salutatory address and Katie O’Connell the valedictory address. Principal Robert Chevier presented diplomas to 40 graduates.
St. John Prep School, Danvers
The 97th commencement took place on Sunday morning, May 20 at Gibbons Field. Addressing the assemblage was valedictorian Jesse Marks and social studies teacher Dana Smith. Peter R. Dolan, ‘74 was presented the Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Albert J. Shannon presented diplomas to 314 graduates.
St. Mary High School, Lynn
Graduation took place on Thursday evening, May 24 at St. Mary Church. The salutatory address was given by Nicole Clarke and the valedictory address by Ryan Mary. Diplomas were presented to 142 graduates.
St. Sebastian Country Day School, Needham
The 63rd commencement took place on Thursday morning, June 7 at St. Bartholomew Church. This year’s class included 11 graduates who are sons of previous graduates. William Burke, principal, presented diplomas to 58 graduates.
Trinity Catholic High School, Newton
Graduation took place on Thursday evening, May 24 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Maureen Dawson delivered the salutatory address and Heather Goodwin the valedictory address. Diplomas were presented to 70 graduates.
Ursuline Academy, Dedham
Graduation took place on Sunday afternoon, June 3 on the grounds of the school. Caitlyn Vozzella delivered the valedictory address and Kimberly Schlesinger the salutatory address. Diplomas were presented to 67 graduates.
Xaverian Brothers High School, Westwood
On the grounds of the football field, commencement took place on Friday evening, May 19. The class of 2007 is the largest since the school was established in Westwood in 1963 and these exercises were the first to be held outside. Diplomas were presented to 259 graduates. Delivering the salutatory address was Michael Kessler and delivering the valedictory address was Mark Amirault.
