Congratulations high school champions
As the high school basketball and hockey seasons come to an end, The Pilot extends congratulations to the following schools for winning division and state championships.
Archbishop Williams: The Bishops went all the way, winning the school's first ever girls Division 3 state championship in Worcester by defeating Granby 62-48 on March 17. Previously, the girls defeated Medfield for the Division 3 south sectional title and Pentucket at the TD Banknorth Garden for the Division 3 EMass title. The girls ended the season at 21-7.
Arlington Catholic: The girls hockey team went all the way, winning the Division 1 state championship by defeating Austin Prep by a score of 3-0. The state title is the first for the girls at AC.
Boston College High: The Eagles had a great St. Patrick's Day weekend. On March 17 the boys basketball team trekked up to the DCU Center in Worcester to face Holy Name for the Division 1 state title. They won the game 56-52 and ended the season with a perfect 25-0 record. On March 18 the boys hockey team took to the ice at the TD Banknorth Garden to face Weymouth High. The boys won the game 6-1 and captured the Super 8 championship title for the second year in a row.
Catholic Memorial: The boys basketball team ended the season at 19-6. Prior to losing the Division 2 state championship game to Tantasqua in Worcester by a score of 64-58 on March 17, the Knights defeated Nauset to win the Division 2 south title. They also defeated Belmont at the TD Banknorth Garden to win the Division 2 EMass title.
Cathedral High: The Cathedral Panthers repeated last year’s success in capturing the Division 4 state title with a win over Savio Prep by a score of 55-52 at the TD Banknorth Garden on March 13. Cathedral ended the season at 17-8.
Central Catholic: The Lawrence Central Catholic girls basketball team ended the season at 20-6. Prior to losing the Division 1 state championship to Springfield Central by a score of 49-62 in Worcester on March 17, the girls defeated Needham at the TD Banknorth Garden on March 12 to win the Division 1 EMass title.
Savio Prep: The boys basketball team won the Division 4 north title with a win over Ipswich at Salem State College on March 9. The win enabled the Spartans to face Cathedral for the Division 4 state title. Savio ended the season at 21-5.
