BRIGHTON -- For the first time since its beginning in the Jubilee year 2000, the Master of Arts in Ministry program for laity at St. John’s Seminary is offering a satellite course in the south region. Msgr. Peter Conley, former editor of The Pilot, will teach “The Documents of Vatican II” on Wednesday evenings from 7:15-9:15 p.m. at St. Gerard Majella Parish in Canton.

Msgr. Conley currently serves as pastor of St. Jude Parish in Norfolk and has taught at Blessed John XXIII Seminary. The course will meet from Jan. 17 until May 16.

The course will cover the ongoing impact of the Second Vatican Council. Students will learn how the council’s documents set a direction for developments in liturgy, parish life, interfaith dialogue and the Church’s self-understanding over the past 40 years. They will also see how implementing Vatican II is still a work in progress that involves all Catholics in living and passing on the fullness of our Catholic faith.

Enrollees need not be scholars or even current students. Recognizing the importance of a well-informed laity, the MAM program welcomes both auditors and for-credit students. Financial aid is also available. Many who have simply sought a deeper understanding of their faith have found classes to be enjoyable and fulfilling.
