Blessed John Seminary to hold 25th jubilee lawn party
WESTON -- Blessed John XXIII National Seminary, a Weston institution since 1964, will celebrate the 25th anniversary jubilee of its Annual Lawn Party on Sept. 20. The charity event is held to benefit the educational program for the seminarians currently enrolled at the seminary.
The event will be held at the seminary, located at 558 South Avenue in Weston at 6 p.m. The evening will include a reception and dinner, along with an appearance by Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley. Admission is $200 per person. A matching grant has also been offered by a group of generous supporters in celebration of the 25th anniversary jubilee.
Blessed John XXIII is the only institution for mature vocations in the United States administered by diocesan priests. These mature candidates, aged 30-60, come to the seminary after having already contributed to their community through a secular career and, upon graduation, will embark on a vocation as ordained priests. The seminary serves over 30 dioceses throughout the United States and Canada.
However, tuition covers only half the cost of educating a seminarian. The proceeds from events such as the lawn party help bridge the tuition gap and keep the costs of educating the seminarians affordable. The seminary relies on its many supporters -- local, national and international -- to continue its mission in providing a vibrant priestly formation program.
