BRIGHTON — Archbishop Seán P. O’Malley has signed a new set of decrees announcing the suppression of eight parishes and erection of one parish. The decrees, dated Aug. 23, were sent to the affected pastors.

In Dorchester a new parish will be erected “from the territory of the former St. Margaret Parish and the former St. William Parish and will worship at St. Margaret Church.” On Aug. 31 both parishes will be suppressed, and the new parish will be formed, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The parish will administer St. William School.

Three French personal parishes will be suppressed — St. Jeanne D’Arc Parish in Lowell, Aug. 30, Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish in Lowell, Sept. 26 and St. Joseph Parish in Waltham, Sept. 28. According to the parish’s decree, the school of St. Jeanne D’Arc will continue as part of St. Rita Parish.

Neighboring churches will receive each parish’s canonical registers. In Lowell St. Rita Parish will receive the records of St. Jeanne D’Arc and St. Margaret Parish will receive those of Notre Dame de Lourdes. In Waltham, St. Mary Parish will receive the records of St. Joseph.

The other suppression dates released were:

St. Anselm Parish in Sudbury, Sept. 15, canonical registers kept at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Sudbury;

St. James Parish in Medford, Sept. 15, canonical registers kept at St. Joseph Parish in Medford;

St. Peter parish, an Italian personal parish in Malden, Sept. 19, canonical registers kept at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden;

Blessed Sacrament Parish in Cambridge, Sept. 20, canonical registers kept at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Cambridge; and

St. Jerome Parish in Arlington, Sept. 26, canonical registers kept at St. Agnes Parish in Arlington.

In all eight suppressions, the decrees state that “the goods and obligations” of the parishes will “become the goods and obligations of the Archdiocese of Boston.”

In a decree released last week, the archdiocese announced the suppression of St. Joseph Parish in Lincoln on Sept. 1. The decree states that the church building will “be given to St. Julia Parish in Weston to be used solely as a site for worship.” The parish’s canonical registers will also be kept at St. Julia Parish. The decree states that “the remaining goods and obligations” of the parishes will “become the goods and obligations of the Archdiocese of Boston.”

To date, the archdiocese has released 28 decrees of suppression and one decree of erection.
