The Archdiocese of Boston said May 4 one new retired priest had test positive for COVID-19 in the preceding seven days. Meanwhile, three retired priests who had previously tested positive for the coronavirus have now recovered.

During the previous seven-day period, April 22 to 29, no new coronavirus cases were confirmed among either retired or active priests.

According to the latest figures provided by the archdiocese's Chief Health Care Ethicist MC Sullivan, a total of 16 retired priests have tested positive for COVID-19. Of those, seven have recovered, and six remain ill and three have died after testing positive for the virus.

The number of cases among active priests remains unchanged since April 22, with five total having tested positive, two of whom have recovered.
