Archdiocesan high school champions
As the winter sports season comes to an end, several Catholic high schools took state titles and division titles in basketball and hockey.
Cathedral High School girls are Division 4/south champions and captured the Division 4 state title on March 20 at Springfield College with a 45-41 win over Millis. Led by Coach Clinton Lassister, the girls end at 22-4. Cathedral High boys had a great season too, winning the Division 4/south title and ending the season at 21-4.
Catholic Memorial boys repeated as Catholic Conference and Division 1/south champions in basketball for a third year-in-a-row. A close loss in the state play-offs to Cambridge ended their season at 22-3.
The boys from St. Mary High School in Lynn captured the Division 4/north title and are Division 4 state title champions after defeating Maynard 61-52 on March 19 in Springfield. The Spartans end the season at 20-5.
The girls from Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody captured the Division 3/north title and won the Division 3 state title with a 57-48 win over Hoosac Valley in Springfield on March 19. The team ends at 23-4.
The girls from Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree captured the Division 3/south title and end at 16-8.
In hockey, three high schools won state titles on March 20 at TD Banknorth Garden. Austin Prep girls won the Division 1 state title with a 1-0 win over Arlington Catholic. Notre Dame Academy in Hingham won the Division 2 state title with a 3-1 win over Wellesley. For both schools, it was their first state title championship. Malden Catholic boys are Super 8 champions with a 2-1 overtime win over St. John Prep. The boys from St. Mary High School in Lynn are Division 1/north title champions and had a great season, ending at 21-6.
