New rector installed at Mission Church
BOSTON -- A Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Church) in Boston, Jan. 9, marked a new era of leadership for the Basilica with the installation of Father Joseph Tizio, C.Ss.R. as pastor and rector.
"I want to let you know that I am here to minister with you and will do my very best to serve you. Please know that I will work as hard as I can to serve our community and I encourage you to contact me whenever you wish," Father Tizio said in his welcome message.
The Mass was presided over by Father James Flavin, Episcopal Vicar for the Central Region of the Archdiocese of Boston, and held the liturgy in three languages -- English, Spanish, and Hatian Creole.
A professed Redemptorist since 1969, Father Tizio was ordained a priest in 1975, and since that time, has worked in several different parishes. He is fluent in Spanish, and will be proactive in the Basilica's Hispanic ministries.
Prior to his assignment at the Basilica, which began in September, Father Tizio worked as the rector of the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, N.Y.
