Everett parish hosts 'College Fair for Immigrant Families'
Immaculate Conception Parish in Everett and the community-run immigrant service organization La Comunidad, Inc. are partnering to hold their first ever "College Fair for Immigrant Families" event, Nov. 22. Translators for Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole speakers will be available.
Taking place in the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, located at 51 Summer Street, the event will give Hispanic immigrant families a chance to gather information on different New England colleges. Event organizer Magalie Rowe, a Spanish teacher at Prospect Hill Academy in Cambridge, told The Pilot during a telephone interview Nov. 10 that several area colleges and universities will have representatives at the college fair.
The University of New Hampshire, Salem State University, Boston College, The University of Massachusetts Boston, Curry College, MassBay Community College and Lesley University have all confirmed their attendance at the event, Rowe said. She noted that several other schools are pending.
Those at the fair will have an opportunity to speak to college representatives and there will be a discussion of the application and admission processes. Rowe will also present her guide, "College Guide for Immigrant Parents" at the event.
