Amendola presents back-to-school kits to Cathedral High students
WALPOLE -- New England Patriots' wide receiver Danny Amendola and Walmart brought 120 students from Cathedral High School to the Walpole retail store, Sept. 2, to prepare for the new school year through the Catches for Kids Foundation Back to School program.
Students received reusable Walmart tote bags full of back-to-school supplies and $50 Walmart gift cards to shop for clothing, shoes and other items to ensure that they have basic necessities to begin the school year.
"Not only is it important to be educated, but to also be prepared to receive that education," said Amendola.
Amendola personally passed out the school supplies to each student, shook their hands, signed autographs, and wished them well in their studies. The students enjoyed a snack before boarding the school bus, ready to take on a new school year.
"I am so happy that we were able to give these kids the proper tools that will allow them to maximize their educational experiences, and I am so excited to continue to make things like this happen in this community," he said.
The principal of Cathedral High School Helenann Civian said in an email that the students were excited to interact with and meet Amendola, and that the drive helped start students off on the right track for the first day of school.
"Students began school with a backpack filled with supplies and ready to learn. We are honored to be a part of this amazing foundation and grateful to Danny Amendola for all of his generosity and time. We look forward to the continued partnership," she said.
Established in 2010, Danny Amendola's Catches for Kids Foundation attempts to improve the lives of low-income children and families in need by providing opportunities, support and resources. For more information, visit dannyamendola.org.
