BOSTON -- The Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center is now accepting nominations for ''the one hundred,'' an awareness and fundraising initiative that celebrates hope in the cancer community. Each year, the Mass General Cancer Center honors 100 caregivers, researchers, philanthropists, advocates and volunteers whose commitment to the fight against cancer inspires people from across the country and around the globe to take action. Launched in 2008, 700 remarkable individuals, organizations and groups have, to date, been designated the one hundred honorees. The Mass General Cancer Center is now looking for the next 100.

According to Dr. Daniel Haber, director of the Mass General Cancer Center, honorees are connected through their common mission--to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families--though they pursue this cause in different and often revolutionary ways. "The one hundred honorees are activists who educate and inform the public, philanthropists who support essential research and programs, caregivers that lift spirits and provide comfort and dedicated scientists committed to developing innovative technologies and treatments that lead to early diagnosis and better outcomes for patients. Together we are changing the way we fight cancer," said Haber.

Nominations can be submitted at www.theonehundred.org/nominate/ through December 31, 2014. 100 honorees will be selected and celebrated at a gala on June 18, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Funds raised through the one hundred support the Mass General Cancer Center, the leader in personalized medicine, early-detection technologies and innovative supportive care. Discoveries made at Mass General benefit cancer patients worldwide.
