Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston named Kevin Broughton as its executive director on Oct. 4.

Father J. Bryan Hehir, president of Catholic Charities, said, “Kevin will be here to serve in a hands-on, day-to-day capacity, which will allow me to get out to our sites more and to share the good works of Catholic Charities with the community.”

Broughton’s responsibilities will include organizational planning, market positioning and fund-raising, among others.

"I look forward to working with both the administrative and field staffs at Catholic Charities to help continue the mission of helping those less fortunate and in need in our communities," said Broughton.

Broughton brings with him a strong financial background and relevant social services experience. Since 1995, he has served as chief financial officer for City Year, an organization that seeks to demonstrate, improve and promote the concept of national service.

For the three years prior to joining City Year, Broughton was director of domestic financial operations for BankBoston. He was a senior financial analyst for Blue Cross of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1979. He began his career in 1972 on the audit side at Peat, Marwick and Mitchell.

Broughton received his master’s from the Boston College Carroll School of Management in 1972 and a bachelor’s in Business Administration from Stonehill College in 1969.

For more than 100 years, Catholic Charities has continued its mission to build a just and compassionate society rooted in the dignity of all people. Catholic Charities maintains more than 40 locations with services including adoption, behavioral health, child care and after-school programs, adult day health, counseling and refugee and immigration services. In 2003, Catholic Charities served more than 213,000 children, teens, families and seniors in need.
