Collection to support Japan relief efforts
BRAINTREE -- Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley has authorized a second collection in the parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston to support relief efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated part of Japan last week. Funds collected will be sent to Catholic Relief Service. CRS is collaborating with Caritas Japan to provide immediate and long-term assistance to those affected by the natural disaster. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan and to the Catholic community there," reads a statement from the archdiocese sent to parishes for inclusion in the bulletins. "The challenges facing the government and people of Japan are extraordinary. The small and vibrant Catholic community in Japan will be greatly aided by the concern of the universal Church."
