Bishop Kennedy named 'Man of the Year'

Auxiliary Bishop Arthur L. Kennedy was named Man of the Year by the County Roscommon Association of Boston at their annual St. Patrick's Day Banquet at the Elks Hall in West Roxbury. The County Roscommon Association is the largest Irish county club in the United States.

Plymouth Knights support Pregnancy Help

The St. Bonaventure Knights of Columbus of Plymouth recently conducted its annual Baby Shower, along with local Cub Scout Pack 51 and employees of Macy's, to support the Archdiocese of Boston's Pregnancy Help Center. The shower raised $2,900 and about $1,200 in new baby items.

The Pregnancy Help Center provides free, confidential counseling, material assistance, prenatal care, referrals and alternative housing for women and families facing crisis pregnancies.

Scholarship available

The Lt. Paul J. Sullivan Scholarship committee is accepting applications for its scholarship until April 8. The committee will award a $3,000 scholarship, as well as additional awards, to deserving high school seniors from Sacred Heart Parish in Newton, St. Patrick's and Sacred Heart parishes in Watertown and St. Mary Parish in Waltham.

Other Watertown residents who meet the scholarship's criteria are eligible to apply. Eligibility requirements include involvement in athletics, activities, and service to school, religion and community.

Scholarships will be presented at a reception May 15. Applications may be obtained by visiting the rectory of an eligible parish or by calling Eleanor Donato at 617-484-5569.

Trinity Broadcasting host to present Norwood/Westwood Lenten mission

The parishes of Norwood and Westwood are sponsoring their third annual Collaborative Lenten Mission from March 20 through 23 at 7 p.m., alternating at each of the parishes. Presenter for all mission sessions will be Father Michael Manning, whose television program "The Word in the World" is broadcast on Trinity Broadcasting Network.

The mission will begin at St. Margaret Mary's on the first night, followed by St. Denis, St. Catherine and St. Timothy. An additional session will be held at St. Denis on March 21 at 4 p.m.

This year, the mission will include a Theology on Tap session on March 19 at the Norfolk Golf Club in Westwood, with one session going from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the other from 8:30 to 10.

EWTN's Benkovic to speak in Methuen

Acclaimed Catholic evangelist Johnette Benkovic will be giving a conference April 9 at Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Johnette is the executive producer of "Women of Grace," a program on contemporary issues from a Catholic perspective, internationally seen on EWTN. Johnette has been on Catholic radio for years, sharing her experience and her story of conversion. Registration fee is $20, and includes two talks by Benkovic, Mass and a bag lunch. Regis faculty member honored

Regis College graduate student and faculty member Cherlie Normilus received the Brigham and Women's Hospital UJIMA Award Mar. 10. The hospital's UJIMA Award was established in 2008 to acknowledge the contributions of multicultural members of the hospital community.

Normilus was born in Haiti in 1976 and lost some family and friends in the 2010 earthquake. She is expecting to receive her Masters of Science from Regis in May. She is a clinical instructor there and a critical care nurse at Brigham and Women's.

SBLI supports St. Anthony Shrine

Bob Sheridan, president and CEO of SBLI, recently presented a donation to St. Anthony Shrine in Downtown Boston for its 2011 fundraising campaign that supports the many ministries of the shrine. In particular, the donation will support the food center there that now serves over 4,000 families each month.
