Family retreat to be held in Brockton

BROCKTON -- Families will be gathering to pray together on June 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at a full day of activities at the Family Rosary Retreat in Easton, which will include eucharistic adoration, mission Rosary, the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, and a vigil Mass celebrated by Auxiliay Bishop John Dooher. The entire day will be offered in English and Spanish at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton.

Based on the theme "Closest Neighbors, Trustworthy Friends, Brothers and Sisters: Living the Beatitudes Together in Christ," keynotes will be given for the English track by Sister Theresa Rickard, O.P., President of RENEW International and developer of the Arise program; and the Spanish track keynote will be given by Dr. Jose Fermin.

"Our greatest gift from God is our family and our greatest gift to our family is our time," says Father John Phalen, CSC, President of Holy Cross Family Ministries. "We hope families will make time to come together. Families are so overburdened with activities and 'busyness.' It makes it difficult to stay close, never mind find time to pray," added Father Phalen. "While this day may add yet another activity to the schedule, we hope the time will fulfill in their lives Father Peyton's famous slogan that, 'The Family That Prays Together Stays Together.'"

Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, sainthood candidate and founder of Holy Cross Family Ministries grew up praying the family Rosary in his home. His great devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary prompted him to found Family Rosary in 1942. A member of Holy Cross Family Ministries in Easton, Family Rosary supports the spiritual well-being of the family through prayer, especially the Rosary by providing opportunities for family members to participate in retreats, workshops, parish missions and days of reflection.
