New decrees signed

Continuing the process of the reconfiguration of the archdiocese, Archbishop O’Malley issued two decrees this week: one creates a new parish in Brockton and another suppresses a parish in Winchester.

Effective Nov. 6, 2004, Immaculate Conception Parish in Winchester will be suppressed. According to the decree, the parish territory will be divided so that the Winchester portion of Immaculate Conception Parish will become part of St. Mary Parish, Winchester, while the Woburn territory will become part of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Woburn. The goods and obligations of the suppressed parish will become those of the archdiocese. The parochial records will be maintained at St. Mary Parish, Winchester.

The archbishop will create a new parish in Brockton on Nov. 21, 2004, confirming the results of a process of merger that began before the larger reconfiguration plan for the archdiocese. The parishes involved are St. Colman of Cloyne and Sacred Heart — a French personal parish.

According to the decree, the new parish will comprise the territory of St. Colman Parish and Sacred Heart Parish, with the parish records of both parishes being kept at Christ the King and the goods and obligations of both St. Colman and Sacred Heart becoming the goods and obligations of the new parish.
