During more than 31 years as a priest and almost four as a bishop, Richard Malone has distinguished himself as a man of sound teaching and patient endurance. He has given almost all of his priestly and episcopal years in service to education.

Widely respected by brother priests for his leadership, eagerly sought by brother bishops as a retreat leader for their priests and as a speaker for educational leaders and admired by his collaborators and students, the new bishop of Portland, Maine, brings to his diocese multiple gifts of grace and nature, energy and enthusiasm and deep faith in Jesus Christ.

As he has done so well here in Boston, so in our sister diocese to the north Bishop Malone will fulfill his episcopal motto and “live the truth in love.”
