Six reconfiguration property sales finalized

The Archdiocese of Boston announced on July 26 the sale of six properties. The archdiocese confirmed reports that the six properties sold for a combined total of over $11 million.

Three of the properties will be used for housing. St. James in Medford was purchased by North Shore Development, and the property included the church, rectory, convent and school. St. Joseph in Salem was sold to the Archdiocesan Planning Office of Urban Affairs, and the property includes the church, rectory, convent and school. The rectory at Blessed Sacrament in Quincy was purchased by John Farrell & Skip Mofford.

Two more properties will be used as worship sites for other churches. St. Joseph in Hyde Park was sold to Greater Faith Worship Center, and the sale included the church, rectory and hall. St. Peter in Malden property, which included the church and rectory, was purchased by Grace Church of God.

St. Joseph in Waltham was purchased by Carlisle Equity Partners for development as a mixed use property. The property included the church, rectory, school and house in Waltham.

The first 16 properties closed in reconfiguration were placed on the market on Nov. 15 last year, and 15 additional properties have been placed on the market since then. Sacred Heart in Medford was the first property sold in reconfiguration. The sale was announced in a statement issued May 20.

All properties are marketed for at least 90 days before bids are collected and evaluated. Input is sought from the archdiocese’s Real Estate Advisory Committee, and then buyers prepare their final offers. The top offers are presented to Archbishop Seán P. O’Malley who takes them to the archdiocesan Finance Council and the College of Consultors for their approval.
