As the school year comes to an end, The Pilot congratulates all graduates from the many Catholic high schools throughout the Archdiocese of Boston.
Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsborough
Graduation took place on May 23. The salutatory address was presented by Katarina Struckman and the valedictory by Deidre Baker. An invited speaker was Molly Grant, a 2005 graduate of the school. Diplomas were presented to 57 graduates.
Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree
The 58th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 27. The salutatory address was presented by Brian Kimball and the valedictory by Daniel Cotton. An invited speaker was Peter Kendall '91 who excelled in football at Boston College and the NFL for thirteen years. Principal Mary Lou Sadowski presented diplomas to 130 graduates.
Arlington Catholic High School, Arlington
On the campus of Bentley College in Waltham, AC held its 47th commencement in the Dana Athletic Center on Friday evening, May 28. The salutatory address was presented by Caroline McDevitt and the valedictory by Linda Buehler. Addressing the graduates was Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn, a 1971 graduate of the school. Diplomas were presented to 109 graduates.
Austin Preparatory School, Reading
In the school's assembly hall, the 45th commencement took place on Saturday, June 5. The salutatory address was presented by Ronald DiTullio and the valedictory by Rebecca Tweedie. An invited speaker was Vice-Consul Jean-Joseph Leandre from Haiti. Headmaster Paul J. Moran presented diplomas to 143 graduates.
Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody
On the school's new football field on a spectacular spring evening, Fenwick held its 48th commencement on Friday, May 29. The salutatory address was presented by Ellen O'Leary and the valedictory by Alexandra Stote. Sister Catherine Fleming, SND, the school's principal, presented diplomas to 149 graduates.
Boston College High School, Dorchester
The 146th commencement took place on Sunday afternoon, May 23 in McNeice Pavilion. Prior to awarding diplomas to 283 graduates, golden jubilee diplomas were presented to graduates of the class of 1960. An invited speaker was General George W. Casey '66, Chief of Staff of the US Army. Chosen to address his classmates was senior Michael J. Gustin.
Cardinal Spellman High School, Brockton
On the grounds of Potwin Field, the 49th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 27. The salutatory address was presented by Marissa Grenon and the valedictory by Ryan Narsiso. The Principal's Award for overall excellence was presented to Patick Ahern. Dorothy Lynch, principal, presented diplomas to 178 graduates.
Cathedral High School, South End
Commencement took place on Saturday afternoon, May 22 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The valedictory address was presented by Delesha Woodley. Mr. Tom Arria, headmaster, presented diplomas to 43 graduates and announced the many awards. He also joined the class in paying special tribute to Mrs. Chrisol Murch, principal, as she retires at the end of the school year, ending 26 years of service.
Catholic Memorial School, West Roxbury
Holy Name Church was the setting for the 50th commencement on Thursday, May 27. The salutatory address was presented by Daniel S. Haley and the valedictory by Jin-Houng Kim. Paul E. Sheff, president, presented diplomas to 130 graduates. Ten in the class are sons of CM alumni.
Central Catholic High School, Lawrence
The 72nd commencement took place on Friday evening, May 28 in the school's Memorial Gymnasium. Members of the Class of 1960 attended. The salutatory address was presented by Christopher Wilbar and the valedictory by Joseph Graziano. Brother Tom Long, FMS, the school's president, awarded diplomas to 323 graduates.
Elizabeth Seton Academy, Dorchester
The sixth commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 20 at St. Gregory Church. The valedictory address was presented by Cornelie Jean-Charles. An invited speaker was Mary Dacey White, District Court Judge for Essex County. Principal Maureen White presented diplomas to 19 graduates.
Fontbonne Academy, Milton
Fontbonne held its 53rd commencement on Thursday evening, May 27 under a tent on school grounds. Joan Barry '60 addressed the graduates and was joined by several members of the Class of 1960. Gabriela Kirk and Alexandra Odegaard were chosen to address their classmates. Principal Mary Ellen Barnes presented diplomas to 103 graduates.
Lowell Catholic High School, Lowell
St. Francis of Assisi Church in Dracut was the scene of the 21st commencement on Friday evening, May 28. The salutatory address was presented by Nicole Smolko and the valedictory by Olivia Gavriel. Principal Mary Ellen DeMarco presented diplomas to 84 graduates.
Malden Catholic High School, Malden
The 74th commencement took place on Saturday afternoon, May 22 at the school. The salutatory address was presented by Joseph Guihan and the valedictory address by James Dickerson. Graduates of the Class of 1960 were presented golden jubilee diplomas at the commencement ceremony. Headmaster Edward C. Tyrrell presented diplomas to 160 graduates.
Marian High School, Framingham
The 50th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 28 in the school assembly hall. Father Michael Guarino '60, pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Revere, addressed the graduates and was joined by his classmates celebrating their golden reunions. The salutatory address was presented by Hyunsup Kim and the valedictory by Jonathan Hunt. Sister Catherine Clifford, CSJ, the school's principal, presented diplomas to 62 graduates.
Matignon High School, Cambridge
The 62nd commencement took place on Thursday, May 27 in the school assemby hall. Graduates of the Class of 1960 attended and took part in the ceremony. The salutatory address was presented by Colin M. Smith and the valedictory by Mikaela Oliverio. Tom Galligani, the school's headmaster, presented diplomas to 59 graduates.
Mount Alvernia High School, Newton
The 71st commencement took place outside, on the grounds of the school, on Saturday, May 22. The salutatory address was presented by Victoria Milano and the valedictory by Cynthia Hession. Head of School Kathleen Kent presented diplomas to 48 graduates.
Mount St. Joseph Academy, Brighton
The 125th commencement took place on Wednesday evening, May 26 in the school assembly hall. The salutatory address was presented by Catherine Dello Russo and the valedictory by Kara McSweeney. Kathleen Fraser, the school's principal, presented diplomas to 58 graduates.
Newton County Day School, Newton
The 130 commencement took place on Thursday morning, June 10 on the grounds of the school under a tent erected for the occasion. Delivering the salutatory address was Madison Sargis and the valedictory was Lyndsay Kerwin. Addressing the graduates was alumnus Alison O'Donnell '98. Diplomas were presented to 52 graduates.
North Cambridge Catholic High School, Cambridge
The 89th commencement took place on Friday afternoon, June 11. The 40 graduates in the Class of 2010 processed from the school on Norris Street to the former Our Lady of Pity Church (now the Church of the Vineyard). The salutatory address was presented by Rebecca Pierre and the valedictory by Daniel Emmanuel. An invited speaker was former Lieutenant Governor and current NCC board chairman Tom O'Neill '62. In September, the school begins a new era as Cristo Rey Boston in a new location in Savin Hill.
Notre Dame Academy, Hingham
The 143rd commencement took place on Friday evening, May 21. The salutatory address was presented by Bridget Nestor and the valedictory by Lauren Burke. Emily Kent was chosen to address her classmates. An invited speaker was Mary Carol Sullivan '68. Diplomas were presented to 142 graduates.
Notre Dame High School, Lawrence
The third commencement took place on Saturday morning, June 12 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. The salutatory address was presented by Skaidy Mieses and the valedictory by Franyris Moncion. Diplomas were presented to 53 graduates.
Pope John XXIII High School, Everett
The 41st commencement took place on Thursday, May 27 in the school assembly hall. The salutatory address was presented by Olivia Woods and the valedictory by Allison Connors. Mary Ann Di Marco, the school's principal, presented diplomas to 70 graduates.
Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen
Graduation took place on Friday evening, May 28 in the Dupree Sports Center. The salutatory address was presented by Madeline Muench and the valedictory by Emily Jarmolowicz. An invited speaker was a member of the faculty, Stephen Stankus. Diplomas were presented to 45 graduates.
Sacred Heart High School, Kingston
Commencement took place on Saturday, May 29. The salutatory address was presented by Cecilia Franzini and the valedictory by Meyling Rose-Anne May. An invited speaker was Elizabeth Sheehan '77. John Enos, the school's principal, presented diplomas to 89 graduates.
St. Clement High School, Medford
Graduation took place on Friday, May 28. Delivering the salutatory address was Alan Cunningham and the valedictory was Paige Coles. An invited speaker was Jack Poirier '49 who has worked with the CIA. Diplomas were presented to 50 graduates.
St. John's Prep, Danvers
Graduates of the Class of 1960 lined up to welcome the Class of 2010 as they entered Ryken Field for the 100th commencement on Sunday morning, May 23. An invited speaker was religious education teacher Michael Leonard. Delivering the valedictory address was Albert J. Rossi. The prestigious Xaverian Award was presented to Joseph B. Thibodeau. Headmaster Albert Shannon presented diplomas to 305 graduates.
St. Mary High School, Lynn
The 128th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 28 at St. Mary Church. The salutatory address was presented by Kevin McCarthy and the valedictory by Anthony Cardillo. An invited speaker was Joan Louise Hill '71, a school trustee. Diplomas were presented to 127 graduates.
St. Sebastian's School, Needham
The 66th commencement took place on Thursday morning, June 3 at St. Bartholomew Church. Delivering the commencement address was Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley. The salutatory address was presented by Edward W. Kingsley and the valedictory by Brendan B. Ecclesine. Headmaster William Burke presented diplomas to 60 graduates.
Trinity Catholic High School, Newton
Our Lady Help of Christians Church was the setting for graduation on Friday evening, June 4. Delivering the salutatory address was Macda Gerard the valedictory was Daryl Thomas. Principal Kelly Surapaneni presented diplomas to 45 graduates.
Ursuline Academy, Dedham
Graduation took place on Sunday afternoon, June 6. Delivering the salutatory address was Lauren E. Vozzella and the valedictory was Rose Catherine Bailey. An invited speaker for the occasion was Elizabeth Mullen '81. Diplomas were presented to 62 graduates.
Xaverian Brother High School, Westwood
The 43rd commencement took place on Friday evening, May 21, amid splendid weather in the football stadium. Diplomas were presented to 215 graduates. Graduates of the Mission High School Class of 1960 attended. The salutatory address was presented by Mark Herman and the valedictory by Dan Bireley. Prestigious Xaverian Awards was given to Vidur Khartri and Alex Phelan.
