A priest of the archdiocese since his ordination on June 25, 1988, at Holy Cross Cathedral by Bernard Cardinal Law, Father Mark J. DeAngelis was granted senior priest retirement status by Archbishop Richard G. Henning on June 24, 2026.

Born in Malden on May 27, 1956, he was raised in Revere. One of twin sons of the late Louis and Marion (Duffy) DeAngelis, he attended the parish school at Immaculate Conception, Revere, and high school at Dom Savio, East Boston. The example of the Salesian faculty at Dom Savio inspired an early sense of a vocation, and after high school, he went to the college preparatory seminary, Don Bosco College, in Newton, N.J. After three years, he came back to Boston and entered St. John Seminary as a candidate for the archdiocesan priesthood. He completed his college formation in 1981 and began his theology studies the next fall.

Completing the seminary formation program in 1988, he was ordained and received his first assignment as a parochial vicar at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers. He was very popular among parishioners and very present to them. He was there for five years before his transfer to St. Agnes Parish, Reading.

His First Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Revere, was the last First Mass of many previously celebrated at his home parish. A new larger church was being completed across the street from the nearly century-old Revere church. Parishioners were sad to see it go but saw the new church as a sign of hope for the parish's ongoing presence in Revere.

From 1995 to 2016, he served in a variety of assignments, most of them as parochial vicar: St. Anthony of Padua (Italian), Revere (1997-2001); St. Raphael, Medford, (2001); St. Patrick, Stoneham, (2007-2009); St. Bridget, Framingham, (2010-2013); and St. Lucy and St. Monica, both in Methuen, (2013).

The archdiocese released him for service to the United States Military (1995-1997) and to the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle (2009-2010).

He had several health leaves between some of these assignments before being named administrator of Sacred Hearts Parish, Malden (2013-2018).

In 2018, he returned as parochial vicar to St. Bridget Parish, Framingham, where he had served as parochial vicar from 2010 to 2013.

Framingham would be his home for the remainder of his active priestly ministry, serving as administrator of the parish from 2019 to 2023, and then as its pastor from 2023 to his retirement in June of this year.

Prior to his ordination, he hoped he would be able to "stir up hearts and minds" of parishioners to realize the love God has for them and move them to active participation in whichever parishes he served. Whether for a short time or for a longer period he was in a parish, he had those opportunities and will enjoy his senior priest status living in his own residence in New Hampshire.
