A name and face familiar to many parishes and their religious education staff, Susan (Considine) Kay died in Lowell on May 28, 2026. She was 80 years old. A proud native of the Mill City, she was the wife of Alfred, and mother of Laura Sullivan, Susan, Maureen Sigler, and Andrew, all of Lowell; and sister of John Considine, Lowell.

A woman steeped in the Catholic faith and the Church's life, she was an alumna of Immaculate Conception School and Keith Hall, both in Lowell, and of the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and Boston College.

She began a lifelong dedication to education, teaching first in public schools and then moved to parish religious education programs and then to leadership in catechetics. She was director of religious education at her home parish, Immaculate Conception, Lowell; then assistant for ministry to the Merrimack Regional bishop before finally being tapped for wider service as an assistant director of religious education for the archdiocese. Her zeal for catechetical formation of children expanded to formation for parish catechetical leaders.

She was also involved in the New Directions for Catholic-Jewish Relations, a reflection of her interest in and commitment to interreligious dialogue and mutual understanding.

In the midst of all this service, she remained involved in her family's life and delighted in the arrival of grandchildren.

She never really retired from her involvement in any of her life projects -- family, friends, former students, and parish.

Susan's funeral Mass was celebrated on June 2, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. She was buried in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
