DORCHESTER — Jeffrey Kaneb, vice president of HP Hood, was installed as chair of Catholic Charities’ Board of Trustees at the agency’s Annual Meeting on Feb. 7. Kaneb replaces Peter Meade, executive vice president of corporate affairs of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Inc.
Kaneb has been with HP Hood for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he worked in management consulting and retailing. He holds a degree in economics from Rice University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
“Jeff Kaneb knows Catholic Charities from the ground up,” said Father J. Bryan Hehir, president of Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Boston. “He has served on Catholic Charities North’s Advisory Board and now on the Archdiocesan Board of Charities. He is intensely interested in the programs of the agency, and he brings the combined wisdom of a devoted Catholic and a successful businessman to the role of the chair. I look forward to working with him. I would also like to thank Peter Meade for his leadership and dedication over the last two years; he has been an enormous benefit to the work of Charities in Boston.”
At his installation, which was held at Catholic Charities’ new Yawkey Center in Dorchester, Kaneb focused on the mission of Catholic Charities as well as the dedication of the talented staff that carry out this mission of building a just and compassionate society rooted in the dignity of all people.
“God’s children are calling and you answer,” he said to the many staff members in attendance. “Thank you for all you do and for giving me the opportunity to serve you.”
Kaneb also announced that John McCarthy, principal at Harvard University’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations and an adjunct lecturer of public policy at the Kennedy School, will serve as vice chair. McCarthy joined the faculty at Harvard after retiring from a 37-year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC, where most recently he served as the global practice leader for education. Previously he was the senior partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ U.S. Education and Nonprofit Practice. McCarthy is a CPA and holds a B.S. in accounting from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
