byChristopher S. Pineo

MILTON -- The Early Bird Men's Group is celebrating their 100th monthly meeting, Sept. 19, with a noon Mass at St. Mary of the Hills in Milton.

The Early Bird Men's Group, which has been described as the largest men's group in the Archdiocese of Boston, has met monthly since 2006. In that time the group sponsored 18 retreats at the St. Joseph Retreat House of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary.

Meetings have included Masses and presentations, as 16 priests and four deacons participated over the years. Laymen have given talks as well, and celebrants and speakers have appeared more than once.

Topics have included Divine Mercy, Eucharistic Adoration, the Shroud of Turin, the Four Last Things, and, most frequently the new evangelization.

Every January, Pro-life members travel to Washington to attend the March for Life.

The spiritual adviser of the group is the recently-elected Rector Major of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary Father David J. Nicgorski, OMV, who served from the group's beginning as retreat master. He continued on after was made the local provincial, and has remained after his election as rector major of his order in July.

Father Arthur Wright, pastor of St. Mary of the Hills, and Father Nicgorski will concelebrate the Mass for the 100th anniversary. The founding leader of the group Bob Dunn is expected to be on hand.
