Round-up of Thanksgiving Day football games

The CM Knights, led by Coach Denis Golden, snapped a 12-year losing streak to their rival, defeating the Eagles 34-33 at BC High’s Viola Stadium. In the fourth period, the score changed three times. With seconds remaining, Rashad Jordan hauled in a 46 yard touchdown from quarterback Tim Watson, giving the Knights the victory. CM ended the season at 5-5. The Eagles, led by Coach Jim Cotter end at 4-7

Malden Catholic vs. Bishop Fenwick (Peabody)

Malden Catholic, 3-8 this season, defeated the Fenwick Crusaders in Peabody by a score of 22-15. Although loosing, Fenwick earned a play-off spot. The Crusaders lost to Tyngsborough on Tuesday, Dec. 2 by a score of 42-14. The Fenwick Crusaders, led by Coach Dave Woods, end the season at 6-6.

St. John Prep (Danvers) vs. Xaverian (Westwood)

The exciting rivalry between the Eagles and the Hawks ended with a victory for St. John at 22-21. An outstanding play by Prep senior Andrew Long, who blocked a field goal attempt, preserved the lead with 14.5 seconds remaining. The victory allowed Prep to win the Catholic Conference Title for a third consecutive year and to face Everett High in a Division I semifinal. Prep lost to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday, Dec. 2 by a score of 38-6. The Prep, led by Coach Jim O’Leary, end the season at 7-5. Xaverian, led by coach Charlie Stevens, had an outstanding season, ending with nine wins and two losses.

Lawrence Central Catholic vs. Andover

Central Catholic, playing at Lawrence Memorial Stadium, defeated Andover by a score of 21-13. The team, led by coach Chuck Adamopoulos, had a remarkable season with nine wins and two losses. Andover ends at 5-6.

Archbishop Williams (Braintree) vs. Cardinal Spellman (Brockton)

The Archbishop Williams Bishops defeated their Catholic Central-Large rival, the Cardinals from Brockton, by a score of 26-7. This year’s seventh annual match-up took place in Braintree. Despite being eliminated from play-off contention, both teams had a respectable season. Archbishop Williams, led by Coach Bill Kinsherf, end the season at 7-3. Spellman, led by Peter Ambrose, end the season at 6-5.

Arlington Catholic vs. Matingon (Cambridge)

An outstanding season for the Arlington Catholic Cougars ended with a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Matignon Warriors by a score of 39-8. Arlington Catholic, led by Coach Serge Clivio, end the season at 9-1 and missed a play-off appearance. Matignon, led by Coach Dave Musca, end the season at 1-10.

Austin Prep (Reading) vs. Savio Prep (East Boston)

Austin Prep came to Sartori Stadium on Thanksgiving morning and defeated the Spartans from Savio by a score of 12-6. Tied at six at the end of the fourth period, the game went into overtime. Last year, the East Boston school lost every game, ending at 0-11. This season, led by Coach Gavin Monagle, the Spartans end at a much improved 7-4. Austin Prep, led by Coach Bill Maradei, end at 6-5.

Lowell Catholic vs. Marian (Framingham)

The Marian Mustangs, playing at home in Framingham, defeated Lowell Catholic 49-14. The Mustangs, led by Coach Phil Marchegiani, end the season at 6-5. Lowell Catholic, led by Coach Tim Walsh, end at 5-5.

Pope John XXIII (Everett) vs. Brighton High School

The Tigers from Everett shut out Brighton High School at Chelsea High School on Thanksgiving Eve by a score of 36-0. The Tigers, led by Coach Paul Sobolewski, end the season at 4-6. Brighton High School, led by Coach James Phillip, end at 1-9.

St. Clement (Somerville) vs. Trinity Catholic (Newton)

The St. Clement Anchormen, at home in Somerville, defeated the Trinity Catholic Falcons with a come-from-behind victory at 30-26. The win was special as it ended an appalling 24 game loosing streak and a seven game loosing streak on Thanksgiving Day. The Anchormen, led by first year coach Colin Walsh, and the Falcons, led by first year coach Steve McGonigle, end with season with identical records of one win and 10 losses.

Cathedral (Boston) vs. Whitter Tech

The Cathedral Crusaders traveled to Whittier Tech and lost to the Wildcats by a score of 28-0. The Crusaders, led by Coach Leo Dorest, end the season at 4-6. Whitter Tech, led by Coach Kevin Bradley, end the season at 5-6.

St. Mary (Lynn) vs. Lynn Tech

The St. Mary Spartans defeated their neighbor, Lynn Tech, at Manning Bowl in Lynn on Thanksgiving Eve by a score of 28-22. With time running out, senior Mike Satterwhite rushed for a three yard touchdown. The exciting victory gave St. Mary’s a play-off spot last Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Manning Bowl. The Spartans lost to Manchester by a score of 20-0. The Spartans, led by Coach Mike Stellato, end the season at 8-3. Lynn Tech, led by Coach Gary Sverker, end at 5-6.
