From the vast expanses of the Salt Flats, to the rugged heights of Mt. Rishel, to the desert depths of Canyonlands National Park, Fr. Nathan explores Utah. Wandering in the heat of day and the dark of night with five gallons of water upon his back, he encounters the fragility of his human condition. Humility becomes the theme as he is stretched from the heights to the depths, reflecting upon his own littleness and the greatness of the Creator.
Reflection Questions:
St. Benedict describes the ladder of humility as "descending" in order to "ascend." In what ways do I "descend" and walk the path of humility in my life?
Do I fall into the temptation of false humility by running myself down or destroying my self-esteem, instead of keeping humility focused on God's love, who loves and holds the fragility of my human condition so tenderly?
In what ways have I and do I experience the poverty and limitedness of my own humanity?
Am I willing to accept my own littleness and the weakness of my human condition lovingly from God, so that I may experience the wonder of God's creation and his greatness?
In what ways can I expand my heart with wonder and gratitude today?
